Something To Think About

YOUTH TALK

LONGING TO BELONG

AT ANY COST!!

So often, our youth just want to be loved and understood by their family and friends, but when this doesn’t happen they go to the extreme to belong and to fit in with others no matter the cost.

Trying to fit in for a young person is hard.  They start by trying to get in with the popular groups, the in crowd, if I may, but in today’s society, when they are not accepted for whatever reason, young people turn to alternate sources; drugs and the most tragic source of all (THE GANGS).

The average gang member today is between 13-24 years old and they are drawn out of broken homes and neighborhoods that are overcrowded with unemployed people and of course school dropouts.

Yes, the gangs are really drawing our young people at an alarming rate. They know that if you don’t take notice and care for them at home, they WILL eventually seek them for acceptance.

They turn to these gangs for love and false support as a means to fit in, but only, after they are drawn in to this false sense of belonging, do they realize “the great cost to belong.” The cost to belong brings about bondage and imprisonment of the mind, body, soul and sometimes even death.

So what are you going to do about it?  It’s time to take our children back.  Let’s open our hearts and minds to them and give them our unconditional love that should be free with no cost.

WE’VE GOT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

* Every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.

* Each year over 200,000 new cases of breast cancer are expected in the US.

* One in eight who lives to age 85 will develop breast cancer during lifetime.

* Breast cancer is leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 & 55.

* 70% of all breast cancers are found through breast self-exams. Not all lumps are detectable by touch. We recommend

   regular mammograms and monthly self-exams.

* Eight out of 10 breast lumps are not cancerous. If you find a lump, don't panic-call your doctor for an appointment.

* Mammography is a low-dose X-ray exam that can detect breast cancer up to two years before it is large enough to be felt.

* With early detection, the 5-yr survival rate is 96%. Over 2 million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today.

Early Detection Plan:

- Monthly self-exams should be done beginning at age 20. Always look for any changes.

- Every 3 yrs. A Clinical Exam should be done for age 20-39, then every year.

- Have a baseline mammogram by 40.  Every one to two years from 40-49, depending on findings, and every year after 50.
